Mary Magdalene’s Truth (#WizardsTarot)

Today, while watching a show about the “lost history” of Mary Magdalene I was struck by a thought – who was she?  What was her true relationship to the man called Jesus?   I decided to ask Tarot what the truth was about her. Using the Wizards Tarot, I asked the following questions:

Who was Mary Magdalene? Knight of Cups
What was her relationship to Jesus? 6 of Swords
What was her mission, her purpose? 8 of Cups

Okay, my take. Immediately upon seeing the Knight of Cups, I was struck by the thought of “the Grail knight”. Mary Magdalene was the seeker of the heart’s truth; the one who pursued the heart’s knowledge. Perhaps she was even the protector of Jesus’ heart.

Her relationship with Jesus was one of equals both on a journey to bring new ideas and new ways of believing to others. They’re aware of the danger but are willing to take the risk because they believe it is important. They confront challenges head-on. Their partnership is one of like minds that will raise us to a new level.  It may have eventually become a more intimate relationship but in the beginning, it would seem to be a relationship of people who shared a passion for ideas and a similar mindset.

Eventually, Mary Magdalene will need to leave behind all she loves, all that brought joy to her life, in order to pursue her life’s purpose. She will need to endure the rest of her journey alone to accomplish her mission.

Taking this reading in light of many of the legends and mythos of Mary Magdalene there are a few interesting connections. Mary Magdalene is intricately woven into the mythos of the Holy Grail. In many theories she either took the chalice (the San Greal) to a secret location in the south of France; in others, she is carrying the bloodline of Jesus (the sang real). There are also apocryphal stories of the other disciples questioning why Jesus loved Mary more than them. They seemed envious and threatened by her status in Jesus’ life and ministry.

So who was Mary Magdalene?  The reality is that we may never know the “truth” in an objective, verifiable manner.  However, I think this reading shows that in an emotional and spiritual sense Mary Magdalene was Jesus’ equal partner; the one who carried on his true work and teachings. She kept the heart of Jesus’ message alive and moving forward.

#TarotDaily – 9 of Sparks + 7 of Sparks (#Pholarchos)

She looked at the man, surrounded and exhausted; his energy waning and yet still he had hope. His heart still yearned and his fire remained unquenched. He still offered her his heart.

It was time to let him in, to lower her defenses and see where this partnership could take them. They were strong willed, fiery, passionate people. It might not be an easy journey but it would certainly be exciting!

#TarotDaily – 2 of Sparks + Ace of Coral (#Pholarchos)

So, new deck and new approach. I got bored with the bullet point approach so I think these entries will be more stream of consciousness. Hopefully, some will find it interesting. 😉

The spark of attraction draws you together. The potential for passionate partnership offers hope for a new romantic relationship. Or maybe your creative energies will spark off each other and lead you into uncharted territory as far as pursuing your dreams.

Looking at the horses, I sense unharnessed power and strength. They are at rest so their energy is not expressed right now. The Ace of Coral senses that potential and dreams ways to tap that energy; intuits its best use and feels it coursing through her before channeling it and giving it direction.

TarotHunter’s Salt Rounds:

  • You seem unwilling to rely on others. How can you choose to a path in your life or to be in a committed relationship if you can’t trust?
  • Perhaps you’re tired of being the beast of burden others count on to help them through rough times and difficult situations. If so, then choose another path; a different response. Only you can prevent others from taking advantage. Appreciate your own value and teach others how to appreciate it too.
  • In order to create a true partnership there must he a give and take. Both partners need to trust they can rely on each other and be able to ask for and accept help when necessary. Are you able to do this or does needing assistance make you feel weak, less than? If so, you are the only one who can choose to change things.

#TarotDaily – 3 of Cups Rx + Knight of Cups Rx (Toscano)

TarotHunter’s Salt Rounds:

  • Partying with friends may be fun but it won’t help you find the emotional fulfillment you seek.
  • Finding the emotional connection you seek with another might happen at a club or bar but how likely is it to be long-term or healthy? Think about what you truly seek in a relationship.
  • Could your friends possibly be holding you back from finding the romantic partner you seek? If you are always with your friends potential partners might be intimidated and afraid to approach you.

COTD – 2 of Wands (Legacy of the Divine & Rabbit)

Twos symbolize formation, balance, partnership, polarity and the coming together of opposites.  Twos can indicate that the focus can no longer be only on oneself; that there is another factor influencing the situation.  They represent the affirmation and confirmation of new directions that were begun at the Ace level.  Wands are usually associated with the element of fire, inspiration, energy, passion, feeling, enterprise, ambition, matters pertaining to the “spark of life”.

“Claiming and validating yourself; saying “yes” to a new role that you’ve definitely decided to play perhaps after comparing and contrasting it with other possibilities; naming the new identity and claiming it for your own.” – Gail Fairfield

The white rabbit on the Rabbit 2 of Sticks reminds me of a person signalling planes at the airport.  For some reason he looks a bit dispirited and tired, as though he’s worn out and can’t do it anymore.  Maybe he needs someone to help him hold the sticks.  Perhaps all that arm waving has just tired him and he needs support and companionship; someone to help keep his energy up and with whom to share ideas.

The Legacy of the Divine 2 of Wands shows a gold key in the center of two locked boxes and two upright spears.  A different colored ribbon flows from the key to each spear or do they flow from the spears to the key?  The concept I draw from this card is one of choices and unleashing energies.  The entire image suggests a sense of stasis, untapped potential.  Things can’t move forward until choices are made and one of the boxes open.  Then the potential within can be unleashed and harnessed.

Both cards seem to suggest a need for decisions to be made and energy focused and unleashed.  Maybe this cannot happen right now because I cannot make the decision on my own.  Perhaps like the white rabbit, I’ve tried to do it on my own for too long and I need a partner or partners.  Someone to help me tap into that energy and help me find some sense of direction and perspective.  I also find that the dynamic when I’m working with someone else tends to make me more productive.

So it seems that the key to unleashing my energy and re-igniting my creative energies is to admit that I can’t do it alone and find some folks who can partner in these endeavors with me.  I do know several people who would probably be great partners for this type of exercise.  I think it would prove to be a complementary and mutually beneficial relationship.  Of course that means I’ll actually have to do these things and not just bull shit about them.

2 of Wands (Dream & Ferret)

Looking at the image on the Tarot of Dreams, I am struck by the concept that this is a pathway, a doorway whose passage requires a choice be made.  One doorway is filled with luminescent blue light and the other glows with orange and rose-pink energy.  Both seem to be equally valid and viable options but which is the right one for me?  It’s impossible to determine that with the information available.  Nothing is visible beyond the doorways, simple the lovely colors.  Of course when you think about it, isn’t that how life goes?  We make decisions based on nothing but instinct or a hunch.  Do I prefer the colors of the pink doorway or the blue?  That might even vary depending upon the day of the week.

Then we look at the Ferret 2 of Wands and see a trio of ferrets who are obviously working together to achieve some sort of goal.  They are focused and thoughtful while they ponder the task that lies before them.  They also look absolutely adorable.  So perhaps the concept they represent is that even when choices must be made, they do not need to be done alone.  You can seek advice and support from friends, loved ones, even co-workers.  Brainstorming is a very successful practice in many businesses.  Why not use a similar approach to decisions that need to be made about your creative life or career?  The more passionate and committed we are to something, the more difficult it can be to view things from an objective perspective.

The other idea that hit me when I looked at these two cards is to find a partner to help make those decisions; make it fun.  That’s the essence I took away from the Ferret 2 of Wands.  It’s not just about brainstorming and getting input from trusted advisors, it’s about having fun.  If your decision making process don’t tape into your creative and fun side then you risk leading a joyless and rather bland existence.
